The pituitary is a small, pea-sized gland located at the base of the brain.
Rat Pituitary Cells are derived from the pituitary gland, a critical endocrine organ located at the base of the brain. These cells are highly heterogeneous, encompassing several specialized cell types, including somatotrophs, lactotrophs, corticotrophs, thyrotrophs, and gonadotrophs, each responsible for producing distinct hormones. The cells are typically small to medium-sized, with a rounded or polygonal shape, and exhibit a granular cytoplasm due to hormone-containing secretory vesicles. They regulate essential physiological processes, including growth, metabolism, reproduction, and stress responses, via hormone secretion. To ensure the quality of these primary cells, repeated freeze-thaw cycles are not recommended due to the fragile nature of these cells. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Rat Pituitary Cells are widely used as in vitro models to study endocrine physiology, hormone regulation, and pituitary-related diseases. Due to their hormone-secreting capabilities, these cells are valuable for investigating the mechanisms of hypothalamic-pituitary axis signaling, including feedback inhibition and stimulatory pathways. Primary rat pituitary cells or immortalized cell lines are commonly employed in pharmacological and toxicological studies to assess drug effects on hormone secretion.
