The whole blood is aseptically collected and prepared to order from our colony of animals.
Rat Red Blood Cells (RBCs) are aseptically collected from the whole blood of healthy, pathogen-free Sprague-Dawley rats, providing a reliable rat red blood cell resource. Following isolation, the erythrocytes are washed thoroughly to remove plasma, leukocytes, and platelets, resulting in a purified suspension of red blood cells. These mature, biconcave, anucleate cells do not divide or proliferate and are not suitable for long-term culture. Due to their terminal differentiation, these cells are intended for single-use experimental procedures and cannot be passaged. Rat RBCs are a valuable resource for in vitro applications requiring cellular membranes, hemagglutination activity, or complement-mediated lysis studies. To ensure the quality of these primary cells, repeated freeze-thaw cycles are not recommended due to the fragile nature of these cells. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Rat Red Blood Cells are widely used in titration of complement activity, detection of hemagglutinins, immunohematology assays, serum absorption procedures, and preparation of erythrocyte membranes or stroma for biochemical studies. They are also frequently employed as a versatile experimental tool in immunology, hematology, and membrane biology research to support assay development and protocol standardization.
