Rat skin fibroblasts, 2-week Wistar rat.
Rat Skin Fibroblasts are primary cells isolated from the dermal layer of rat skin. These cells exhibit a spindle-shaped or stellate morphology with a flat, elongated structure when cultured in vitro, displaying characteristic fibroblast-like features. Rat skin fibroblasts play a crucial role in ECM synthesis, secreting collagen types I and III, as well as hyaluronic acid during inflammatory responses, thereby contributing to tissue repair and fibrosis. Key molecular markers include vimentin and fibronectin. To ensure the quality of these primary cells, repeated freeze-thaw cycles are not recommended due to the fragile nature of these cells. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Rat Skin Fibroblasts are widely employed in biomedical research due to their critical role in extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling and wound healing. These cells serve as a primary in vitro model for studying fibrosis mechanisms, particularly in conditions such as scleroderma, hypertrophic scarring, and burn injuries, where excessive collagen deposition leads to tissue dysfunction.
