The Sprague-Dawly (SD) Rat Astrocytes offer primary rat astrocytes for neurobiology, signaling, and CNS disease modeling in vitro experiments.
Sprague-Dawley (SD) Rat Astrocytes are isolated from the cerebral cortex of SD rat pups. Cryopreserved at early passage, these cells exhibit a star-shaped morphology with branching processes and grow as adherent monolayers. They function in regulating synaptic activity, maintaining blood-brain barrier integrity, providing metabolic support to neurons, and responding to neural injury, with relevance to studies on neurodegenerative diseases, stroke, and traumatic brain injury. They highly express glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and S100β, and maintain a normal rat karyotype. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Sprague-Dawley (SD) Rat Astrocytes can be used as an in vitro model to study neuroinflammatory processes in conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease and ischemic stroke. For example, by investigating the molecular pathways of their activation, cytokine release, and synaptic support functions, they provide a better understanding of astrocyte-mediated neural homeostasis and pathological changes, aiding in exploring treatments for neuroinflammatory disorders.
