THLE-2 liver epithelial cells immortalized with SV40,non-tumorigenic,metabolize pro-carcinogens, ideal for liver toxicity, drug metabolism, and HCC studies.
THLE-2 is a human immortalized normal liver epithelial cell line derived from adult liver tissue immortalized by infecting primary adult liver cells with recombinant SV40 large T antigen. These cells exhibit typical epithelial morphology with polygonal shapes and tight cell-cell contacts, forming a monolayer in culture. THLE-2 cells retain many liver-specific functions, including expression of cytochrome P450 enzymes (e.g., CYP3A4, CYP1A2) and albumin production, making them a reliable model for hepatic biology. They are non-tumorigenic and widely used to study liver metabolism, toxicity, and disease mechanisms such as hepatitis and hepatocellular carcinoma initiation. THLE-2 cells maintain stable karyotypes and express epithelial markers such as cytokeratin 18. THLE-2 ideal for pharmacotoxicological studies, hepatic metabolism, and hepatocellular carcinoma research.

THLE-2 cells can serve as useful models for xenobiotic studies. They are commonly used to study xenobiotic metabolism and detoxification pathways. These cells are also employed as an lab-based system for drug toxicity tests, allowing researchers to assess the potential adverse effects of drugs and other substances on liver function. Additionally, THLE-2 cells are valuable tools for studying early events in hepatocarcinogenesis, offering insights into the development and progression of this type of liver cancer.
