Wistar Rat Astrocytes are primary glial cells suitable for neuroscience and neurotoxicity studies, supporting central nervous system research applications.
Wistar Rat Astrocytes are derived from the brain tissue of Wistar rats. Following the primary culture, these cells are cryopreserved. GFAP‑positive cells account for ≥ 70% of the total cell population. These astrocytes are extensively studied for their roles in brain function, including the regulation of neurotransmitter homeostasis, ion balance, and synaptic transmission. They are also widely used as in vitro models to investigate neurodegenerative diseases and the impact of toxins on the brain. In vitro, these cells have limited proliferative capacity, and repeated freezing and thawing during culture should be avoided. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Wistar Rat Astrocytes can be used as an in vitro model to study neuroinflammation, astrocyte-neuron communication, and glial cell function in the central nervous system. These cells are suitable for research on traumatic brain injury, neurodegeneration, and blood-brain barrier regulation. They contribute to understanding gliosis, cytokine secretion, and astrocytic support for neuronal activity under both physiological and pathological conditions.
