Description

BALB/c Mouse Liver Epithelial Cells are primary non-parenchymal epithelial cells derived from the liver tissue of BALB/c mice (Mus musculus). These cells primarily consist of biliary epithelial cells (cholangiocytes), which line the intrahepatic bile ducts and play key roles in bile secretion and hepatic regeneration. In culture, liver epithelial cells exhibit a typical cobblestone morphology, adhere tightly to the culture substrate, and form monolayers. They are characterized by the expression of epithelial markers such as cytokeratin 18 (CK18), cytokeratin 19 (CK19), and EpCAM, but lack expression of hepatocyte-specific proteins like albumin. Karyotyping ensures genetic stability. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures and is tested to ensure it is free from contamination by Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • BALB/c Mouse Liver Epithelial Cells are suitable for research on bile duct development and regeneration, particularly in cholangiocyte biology. They are widely used to model cholestatic liver diseases such as primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) and primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), as well as for studies of liver fibrosis and inflammation. These cells also support toxicology screening of bile-modulating drugs and xenobiotics, and advanced in vitro model development, including liver-on-chip systems and co-cultures with hepatocytes or immune cells.
