BT-474 is a human breast tumor cell line that was originally isolated from the breast tissue of a 60-year-old white female patient with invasive ductal carcinoma. BT-474 exhibits epithelial-like morphology and adherent/patchy culture properties. BT-474 is shown as aneuploid expression with the chromosome mode numbers of 55. These cells express high levels of progesterone receptors (PR), estrogen receptor positive (ER), and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2). BT-474 is tumorigenic in nude mice. These characteristics make it a powerful model for studying hormone-responsive breast cancer.
