CCD‑986Sk is a human skin fibroblast cell line derived from the normal dermis of a 22-year-old African American female donor. It is a finite, non-transformed cell line that undergoes replicative senescence around 36 population doublings. The cells exhibit elongated, spindle-shaped fibroblast morphology and adherent growth. Cytogenetic analysis shows a diploid karyotype, with stable genomic integrity throughout its proliferative lifespan. CCD‑986Sk expresses high levels of extracellular matrix components such as collagen type I (COL1A1), as well as signaling molecules including TGF-β1 and FGF2. These characteristics make the cell line a suitable model for physiological and biochemical studies related to skin structure, repair, and aging. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, mycoplasma, fungi, yeast, and bacteria.

CCD‑986Sk cells are widely used in dermatological, cosmetic, and wound healing research. Their physiological relevance to normal human dermal fibroblasts makes them ideal for studying collagen synthesis, fibroblast proliferation, and skin aging. These cells are commonly employed in assays assessing extracellular matrix formation, fibrotic responses, and bioactive compound screening. They are also compatible with co-culture systems involving keratinocytes or melanocytes and are useful for evaluating anti-aging or regenerative therapeutics targeting dermal fibroblasts.
