Leverage Detroit 562 cell line derived from pharyngeal carcinoma, useful for studying cancer pathogenesis and glucose metabolism in tumor cells.
Detroit 562 cell line is derived from a pleural effusion metastasis of pharyngeal carcinoma in an adult Caucasian female patient. This cell line displays an adherent growth pattern. These cells exhibit an epithelial-like morphology. Karyotype analysis shows chromosomal variability, which is common in cancer cells. The karyotype analysis reveals that the cell line has a modal chromosome number of 2n=46. They express NAT10, DCUN1D5, and GEMIN4. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Detroit 562 is widely used in virology due to its permissiveness to viruses such as poliovirus and vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV), serving as a model to study viral replication and antiviral drug development. In drug screening, this cell line helps evaluate chemotherapeutic agents and targeted therapies for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), particularly those affecting EGFR and PI3K/AKT pathways.
