Human PB Red Blood Cells are isolated from healthy donor peripheral blood and support studies in oxygen transport, RBC lifespan, and anemia.
Human Red Blood Cells (RBCs, also called erythrocytes) are isolated from peripheral blood. Human RBCs are developed in adult bone marrow through erythropoiesis. During erythroid maturation, RBCs lose their nucleus and most organelles to accommodate maximum space for hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is an iron-rich protein which gives erythrocytes the red color. It also enables mature erythrocytes to transport oxygen to organs and carry carbon dioxide back to the lungs to accomplish gas exchanges. The loss of nuclei makes human RBC oval biconcave disks, appearing dumbbell-shaped in profile so that they can acquire an extraordinary degree of deformability and be flexible enough to pass through extremely small blood vessels. Mature red blood cells are essential for oxygen transport in mammals and serve as a key component of human hematology research and blood cell–based studies.

Human PB Red Blood Cells (RBCs)/Mature Erythrocytes are widely used in transfusion research, hematology diagnostics, and drug delivery systems. They serve as models for studying hemolytic anemias, sickle cell disease pathophysiology, and malaria parasite (Plasmodium) invasion mechanisms. RBCs are also utilized in blood storage optimization, hemoglobinopathy research, and biocompatibility testing of medical devices. Emerging applications include RBC-based drug carriers and oxygen therapeutics for ischemia.

A mature red blood cell, also known as an erythrocyte or RBC, is a fully differentiated blood cell responsible for oxygen and carbon dioxide transport. Mature erythrocytes lack a nucleus and organelles, optimizing them for efficient gas exchange in the bloodstream.
