Human Villus Capillary Endothelial Cells.
Human Villus Capillary Endothelial Cells (HVCEs) are specialized microvascular endothelial cells derived from the capillaries of intestinal villi. These cells are of mesodermal origin and exhibit a cobblestone-like morphology when cultured in vitro, forming a continuous monolayer with tight junctions. They are characterized by their flattened, polygonal shape and prominent nucleus, typical of endothelial cells. HVCEs regulate vascular permeability, mediate immune cell trafficking, and facilitate the participate in nutrient transport from the intestinal lumen into the bloodstream. These cells express the endothelial marker CD31, which is commonly used for endothelial cell identification. To ensure the quality of these primary cells, repeated freeze-thaw cycles are not recommended due to the fragile nature of these cells. The cells are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, syphilis, mycoplasma, fungi, yeast, and bacteria.

Human Villus Capillary Endothelial Cells have significant applications in biomedical research, particularly in studying intestinal vascular biology, drug absorption, and disease modeling. They can be used in drug permeability assays to evaluate oral drug delivery efficiency, helping optimize pharmacokinetics and bioavailability of therapeutics. These cells are also valuable in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) research, as they provide a useful in vitro model to investigate endothelial dysfunction, leukocyte adhesion, and vascular leakage associated with intestinal inflammation.
