Jurkat, Clone E6-1 is a T cell leukemia model for apoptosis, T cell signaling, and cancer immunology studies, derived from a 14-year-old patient.
Jurkat, Clone E6-1 is an immortalized human T lymphoblast leukemia cell line originally derived from the peripheral blood of a 14‑year‑old male patient with acute T‑cell leukemia. These cells grow in suspension culture with lymphoblast morphology and express key T‑cell features including the T‑cell receptor (TCR)/CD3 complex, making them a robust model for studying T‑cell signaling and activation. Jurkat E6.1 cells produce large amounts of interleukin‑2 (IL‑2) when stimulated with phorbol esters combined with lectins or anti‑T3 antibodies, a hallmark of T‑cell functional assays. Recent genomic and transcriptomic analyses reveal considerable genomic heterogeneity and instability within Jurkat E6.1 populations, and these variations can influence immunophenotype and cytokine production, underscoring the importance of monitoring passage history and cell authentication in experimental workflows. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from HIV‑1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

urkat, Clone E6-1 is extensively used as an in vitro model of human T‑cell biology and leukemia for dissecting TCR signaling pathways, studying immune synapse formation and cytokine regulation, evaluating immune checkpoint and activation mechanisms, and assessing responses to pharmacologic agents in hematologic and immuno‑oncology research. Its responsiveness to antigen‑receptor engagement and robust cytokine induction make it valuable for signal transduction studies, reporter assays, gene editing experiments, and early drug screening in translational immunology.
