Description

Rat Aortic Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells (VSMCs) are primary contractile cells isolated from the thoracic or abdominal aorta of adult Sprague–Dawley rats (Rattus norvegicus). These spindle-shaped cells form the characteristic “hill-and-valley” pattern typical of mature VSMCs and express α-smooth muscle actin. They also express other contractile markers, including smooth muscle myosin heavy chain and calponin, and maintain functionality across early passages. Functionally, rat aortic VSMCs respond robustly to mechanical stretch through integrin–cytoskeleton–Rho/ROCK pathways—a key insight into mechanotransduction in vascular health and disease. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures and is tested to ensure it is free from contamination by Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.
