Description

Rat Brain Nerve Cells are primary cortical neurons isolated from the cerebral cortex of neonatal rats. These cells exhibit characteristic neurite outgrowth and a multipolar morphology and can support features associated with synaptic connectivity in vitro. As post-mitotic cells, they do not proliferate and are not amenable to passaging. Rat brain neurons are integral to the central nervous system (CNS), responsible for synaptic transmission and neuroplasticity, and are particularly vulnerable in neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. Immunocytochemical profiling typically shows high expression of βIII-tubulin (Tuj1) and microtubule-associated protein 2 (MAP2), confirming their neuronal identity. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • Rat Brain Nerve Cells serve as a ideal in vitro model for neuroscience research. They are widely used in studies of neuronal development, synaptic function, axonal injury, neurotoxicity, and electrophysiological activity. Additionally, they offer a valuable tool for drug screening and mechanistic studies in models of epilepsy, ischemic injury, and neurodegenerative diseases. Owing to their defined morphology, these cells support modeling aspects of central nervous system pathways and evaluating neuroprotective compounds.
