Description

Rat Brain Striatum Astrocytes are primary astroglial cells isolated from the striatal region of neonatal rat brains. These star-shaped glial cells are a major component of the central nervous system (CNS) and exhibit adherent growth with a characteristic fibrous, process-bearing morphology. Astrocytes play pivotal roles in maintaining neural homeostasis, promoting synaptogenesis, regulating neurotransmitter uptake, and forming the blood-brain barrier (BBB). In striatal regions, astrocytes are particularly involved in dopamine metabolism and neuroinflammatory responses relevant to diseases such as Huntington's disease and Parkinson's disease. These cells express key astrocytic markers including GFAP and S100β. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • Primary rat brain striatum astrocytes provide a relevant in vitro platform for studying astrocyte-neuron interactions, neuroinflammation pathways, and dopaminergic neurotoxicity. They are commonly used in research related to neurodegenerative disorders such as Huntington’s disease, ischemia-induced brain injury, and Parkinsonian syndromes. These cells are also valuable for screening neuroprotective drugs, modeling astrocyte-mediated immune responses, and evaluating blood-brain barrier integrity under inflammatory or oxidative stress conditions.
