Perineurial cells are of mesenchymal origin.
Rat Perineural Fibroblasts are specialized mesenchymal cells originating from the neural crest or local mesodermal progenitors, primarily located around peripheral nerves within the endoneurium or perineurium. These cells exhibit a spindle-shaped or stellate morphology with elongated cytoplasmic processes, facilitating their interaction with adjacent Schwann cells, axons, and extracellular matrix (ECM) components. Rat perineural fibroblasts contribute to nerve homeostasis by secreting ECM proteins to support nerve architecture, modulating inflammation via cytokine release, and participating in nerve repair post-injury. Key molecular markers include vimentin. To ensure the quality of these primary cells, repeated freeze-thaw cycles are not recommended due to the fragile nature of these cells. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Rat Perineural Fibroblasts have significant applications in regenerative medicine, disease modeling, and drug discovery. In nerve regeneration, these cells are crucial for reconstructing the extracellular matrix (ECM) and providing trophic support to damaged nerves, making them potential candidates for bioengineered nerve grafts. Their ability to secrete growth factors and ECM components can enhance axonal regrowth in peripheral nerve injuries.
