Rat Pulmonary Artery Smooth Muscle Cells from AcceGen are isolated from tissue of Sprague-Dawley Rats.
Rat Pulmonary Artery Smooth Muscle Cells (RPASMCs) are specialized contractile cells derived from the tunica media of pulmonary arteries. RPASMCs exhibit a spindle-shaped or elongated structure with a central nucleus and abundant actin-myosin filaments, which are essential for their contractile function. RPASMCs regulate vascular resistance through contraction and relaxation, mediated by calcium-dependent signaling pathways. These cells play a critical role in regulating vascular tone and blood pressure in the pulmonary circulation. RPASMCs highly express smooth muscle cell-associated markers including α-SMA, SM-MHC and calponin. To ensure the quality of these primary cells, repeated freeze-thaw cycles are not recommended due to the fragile nature of these cells. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Rat Pulmonary Artery Smooth Muscle Cells (RPASMCs) are widely used in biomedical research to study pulmonary vascular physiology and pathology. Their primary application lies in investigating the mechanisms of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), where they serve as a key model for examining abnormal proliferation, migration, and vascular remodeling. Additionally, RPASMCs are employed in drug screening to evaluate the efficacy of vasodilators and antiproliferative agents for PAH treatment.
