Rat Vein Smooth Muscle Cells

Rat Vein Smooth Muscle Cells (SMCs) are isolated from the tunica media of veins of rats. Cryopreserved at early passage, these cells exhibit a spindle-shaped morphology. They function in regulating venous tone through contraction and relaxation, supporting venous blood return, and contributing to vascular remodeling, with relevance to studies on venous hypertension, varicose veins, and venous thrombosis. They express alpha smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), and maintain a normal diploid karyotype. Repeated freezing and thawing of cells is not recommended. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.​
