Description | HCT-116, a cell line originating from the colorectal tissue of an adult male diagnosed with colon cancer, is characterized by a specific mutation in codon 13 of the ras proto-oncogene. These cells exhibit a positive immunoperoxidase staining for keratin and demonstrate the expression of transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF beta 1) and beta 2 (TGF beta 2). In culture, HCT-116 cells exhibit an epithelial-like morphology, growing as a monolayer. Their growth and plating efficiency are notably enhanced when co-cultured with murine fibroblasts. For maintenance, it is recommended to perform routine passaging at a ratio of 1:3 to 1:5 every 3-4 days.
Why choose HCT-116 from AcceGen? AcceGen’s HCT-116 cell line is characterized by its exceptional quality and high viability. They diligently monitor the cells on a daily basis to confirm the absence of bacteria and fungi, employing PCR-based analysis to ensure mycoplasma-free cultures. Additionally, the identity of these cells is confirmed through STR analysis.

Application | FOR RESEARCH USE ONLY HCT-116 cells find extensive applications in therapeutic investigations and drug screenings, especially within the realm of colon cancer research. Their mutation in codon 13 of the KRAS proto-oncogene renders them an attractive target for gene therapy research, readily allowing transfection with viral vectors. Furthermore, they prove valuable in tumorigenicity studies. These cells are instrumental in a variety of biomedical research endeavors, such as exploring the significance of Cyclin D1 in lithocholic acid hydroxyamide activity and examining the impact of transferrin levels in polyethyleneimine-siRNA complexes on siRNA uptake.
