Description

Rat Cardiac Fibroblasts, Neonatal are primary mesenchymal cells isolated from healthy neonatal rat ventricular tissue. These cells exhibit a spindle-shaped morphology, plastic-adherent growth properties, and high proliferative capacity. As the most abundant non-myocyte cell type in the neonatal heart, they play a critical role in synthesizing and remodeling of extracellular matrix (ECM) components, particularly types I/III collagen, under both physiological and pathological conditions. Compared to adult cardiac fibroblasts, neonatal fibroblasts exhibit greater plasticity, enhanced responsiveness to growth factors, and more dynamic ECM remodeling capacity. They are positive for vimentin. These cells are cryopreserved at an early passage. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • Neonatal rat cardiac fibroblasts serve as a powerful in vitro model to explore ECM remodeling, fibrotic signaling pathways, and cardiac development. These cells are ideal for examining collagen metabolism and regulation by vasoactive agents such as angiotensin II, TGF β and aldosterone, critical for modeling hypertensive or post-infarction fibrosis. Compared to adult cardiac fibroblasts, neonatal fibroblasts are better suited for developmental studies of the neonatal heart and ECM organization, co-culture with neonatal rat ventricular myocytes (NRVMs) to model early cardiac tissue behavior and drug testing focused on early-stage fibrosis.
