Neonatal rat cardiac fibroblasts serve as a powerful in vitro model to explore ECM remodeling, fibrotic signaling pathways, and cardiac development. These cells are ideal for examining collagen metabolism and regulation by vasoactive agents such as angiotensin II, TGF β and aldosterone, critical for modeling hypertensive or post-infarction fibrosis. Compared to adult cardiac fibroblasts, neonatal fibroblasts are better suited for developmental studies of the neonatal heart and ECM organization, co-culture with neonatal rat ventricular myocytes (NRVMs) to model early cardiac tissue behavior and drug testing focused on early-stage fibrosis.
