Rat peritoneal macrophages elicited with thioglycollate, ideal for studying innate immunity, inflammation, and macrophage activation pathways.
Rat Peritoneal Macrophages-Thioglycollate-elicited are a population of immune cells derived from the peritoneal cavity of rats following induction with thioglycollate broth, an inflammatory stimulant that recruits monocytes from the bloodstream. These cells differentiate into macrophages upon entering the peritoneal space, exhibiting a predominantly large, rounded to irregular morphology with prominent cytoplasmic extensions and a high degree of phagocytic activity. Morphologically, they appear as adherent, granular cells with a vacuolated cytoplasm under microscopy, reflecting their active endocytic and secretory functions. These cells also play critical roles in innate immunity, including pathogen clearance, antigen presentation, and tissue repair. Key markers include CD68 and CD11b. To ensure the quality of these primary cells, repeated freeze-thaw cycles are not recommended due to the fragile nature of these cells. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Rat Peritoneal Macrophages-Thioglycollate-elicited are widely used in biomedical research due to their robust inflammatory and phagocytic properties. These cells serve as an excellent ex vivo model for studying innate immune responses, including phagocytosis, pathogen clearance, and cytokine production. Additionally, their role in wound healing and fibrosis is frequently examined, as they secrete key mediators like TGF-β and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs).
