Rat Thyroid Epithelial Cells from AcceGen are isolated from tissue of 1-day-old neonatal laboratory Sprague–Dawley Rats.
Rat Thyroid Epithelial Cells are isolated from the thyroid tissues of rats. Cryopreserved at early passage, these cells exhibit a polygonal, cobblestone-like morphology in adherent monolayers. They function in iodine uptake, thyroglobulin synthesis, and secretion of thyroid hormones, regulating metabolic rate and being relevant to studies on hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and thyroid cancer. The preserved functionality makes them excellent candidates for screening environmental disruptors that target NIS and TPO activity. They express epithelial markers E-cadherin and ZO-1. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Rat Thyroid Epithelial Cells act as an in vitro model to study thyroid function and pathogenesis of disorders like hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and thyroiditis. For example, by investigating their role in hormone synthesis and regulatory pathways, they enhance understanding of thyroid physiology and pathological changes, aiding in exploring treatments for thyroid-related endocrine diseases.
