C57BL/6 Mouse Primary Corneal Epithelial Cells from AcceGen are isolated from tissue of pathogen-free laboratory mice.
C57BL/6 Mouse Corneal Epithelial Cells are primary cells isolated from the corneal tissue of pathogen-free laboratory mice. These cells primarily reside on the anterior surface of the cornea, forming the outermost layer of the corneal tissue. Following primary culture, these cells are cryopreserved. These cells are capable of self-renewal and maintain ocular surface integrity, barrier function against pathogens, and contribute to corneal transparency and light refraction. Studies show they are implicated in fungal keratitis, delayed age-related wound healing, herpetic keratitis, and dry eye disease due to disrupted tear film stability, making them useful for therapeutic screening for corneal regeneration. Phenotypic characterization confirms expression of epithelial markers E-cadherin and ZO-1. For optimal performance, repeated freezing and thawing should be avoided during culture. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

C57BL/6 Mouse Corneal Epithelial Cells can be used as an in vitro model to study the pathogenesis of ocular surface disorders in disease conditions including neurotrophic keratitis and severe dry eye disease. For example, by investigating molecular pathways like EGFR-mediated proliferation defects or SPDEF-dependent goblet cell metaplasia, these cells serve as an important model to elucidate mechanisms of impaired barrier function, delayed epithelial regeneration, and nerve damage-mediated corneal melting, aiding the development of biologic therapies for corneal healing.
