Description

Rat Brain Hippocampus Neurons are primary cells isolated from the hippocampal region of postnatal rat brains, an area critical for memory formation and spatial navigation. In vitro, they display a polarized morphology with extended axons and dendrites. The population includes both glutamatergic pyramidal neurons and GABAergic interneurons, which exhibit spontaneous electrical activity and participate in long-term potentiation (LTP), synaptic plasticity, and excitotoxicity. They should not be passaged, and repeated freeze-thaw cycles should be avoided. These neurons strongly express neuronal marker β-III tubulin (TUBB3), confirming their identity. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • Primary rat brain hippocampus neurons are extensively used in neurobiology to study mechanisms of learning, memory, synaptogenesis, and neurotoxicity. They serve as reliable models for investigating neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, and ischemia-induced neuronal damage. Their robust response to pharmacological agents makes them ideal for electrophysiological recordings, calcium imaging, and high-throughput drug screening.
